10 Lame Reasons Why I’ve Been M.I.A

Well hi there. It’s me, the queen of “no excuses” with 10 perfectly lame excuses as to why I haven’t been blogging lately. Want to hear them, and then yell at me? Okay, let’s go.

1) New job, new schedule: It’s funny, because I thought for sure I would have tons of free time to dedicate to blogging once I started my new job. Turns out it’s the complete opposite. Really pathetic that I spent so much time at my old job when I was supposed to be working, blogging. Ah, the cushy corporate life.. how I miss thee.

2) Afternoon naps: This is sort of a joke, sort of serious considering I’ve taken two naps since I started working. But the point is, I get home from work at 1, eat lunch, and want to veg. My brain needs to turn off for a few minutes, and sometimes a few minutes turns into a few hours, and then I’m rushing out the door to spin. And the afternoon is gone. Whoops!

3) Studying for NASM: When my brain IS on, I’ve been busy studying for the NASM certification. I took the test once and missed it by 4 questions (don’t even get me started) so I’m trying a new studying technique so I can be sure to nail it the second time around. If any of you have taken this beast of exam, you feel my pain.

4) Trashy TV: And sometimes, when my brain is OFF, I watch trashy TV. Yep, I’ll admit to it. Afternoon marathons of Sex and the City? Thanks a lot, E, way to really make me feel like a stay at home wife. And I’m very thankful that Vanderpump Rules is finishing up next week because I hate myself for watching it… but… can’t…. stop.

5) Other blogs: I’ve been cheating on you, SEGR. I’ve been doing the blogging for the spin studio over at Being Recycled, and this has been the biggest roadblock in my own personal blog. I’m not complaining because I really enjoy doing it, but I need to find a happy balance to be able to maintain both. I’m looking forward to being back over here because I can express myself a little more freely. And say things like shitballs and assface.
… Shitballs. Assface.

6) New clients: We are opening a new spin studio that has a sweet personal training area, so I’m starting to see clients on my own. Which is awesome! But scheduling and making new workout routines takes up precious blogging time… but I will start sharing these workouts with y’all 🙂

7) Laziness: Sometimes, I just want to come home and sit on my ass and do nothing. That is all. And I do just that.

8) Over-scheduling myself: As I’ve said before, I thought I would have all of this glorious free time with my new job, and it turns out I’ve been trying to occupy every free second of my day. From now on, I’m making a conscious effort to come home after work (or yoga, if I can get myself back over there) sit down, blog, make new playlists, and catch up on emails. I neeeed to do that.

9) Uneventful life: Even though I’ve been really busy, I feel like I haven’t had anything ground breaking or insane to share. But then I remember the point of this blog isn’t about anything exciting or insane, it’s about my life. So I’m going to tell it as it is. Try not to bore yourself to death reading…

10) Questioning my life and future of this blog: That’s a little too deep… but I’ve really been trying to figure out what I want to do with this blog. I was posting 5x a week earlier, and I just can’t maintain that. So is it fair to only post 2-3x a week? Do I have time do to that? Do I have enough content to do that? Do I want to? Will my readers hate me? It’s been a month and I haven’t blogged?! WTF?! These are the things running through my head. But the truth is- I really do like to blog, and I do think on occasion I have interesting things to say, so I’m going to stick with it.

I apologize for the hiatus and the ultra lame excuses for not being around. Honestly, sometimes life just gets in the way. But I’m back, whether you like it or not. And I’m going into serious kick butt mode the next month with nutrition and being uber Paleo, so #noexcuses mode is back in full effect.

Watch out bitches…

Week Recap

So. Looking back on this week, it was a little intense. I had 4 spin classes (taught 3, took one) and 2 WODS in 4 days. Say what?? I was a little nervous about doing spin and CrossFit, but I think that the two go perfectly together. I need to let out all that lactic acid that builds up in my thunder thighs. It’s funny- my whole life, up until this past year, I’ve hated my thighs. They’ve always been large and in charge since I was a toddler and started playing soccer at the age of 3.

Chunk citaaayyy!

But now I have grown to appreciate them. They’re strong, and toned, and even though they still jiggle and I have to do a wiggle dance every time I put on jeans, I appreciate all that they do for me.

Can you tell that this is going to be a ramble of a post? Good, just wanted to prepare you.

My second WOD was fun and challenging. It was all about Olympic lifts and nailing down your form, which was a perfect WOD for this newbie. The trainer, Jared, was really helpful and kept coming over and checking in on me. It kinda reminded me of learning how to play golf- it looks so easy when you see other people doing it, but when you go to actually do the movement, there’s a million things to think about. While doing snatches, if I was concentrating on keeping the bar close to my body, then my arms would bend. If I concentrated on keeping my arms straight, then my jump would be off timing wise. It’s definitely a challenge, and I can see why people are so obsessed with CrossFit. You really want to be in there, pushing yourself harder and making yourself better. I kept thinking to myself “I KNOW I can do this, I WANT to do this, I WILL do this”… eventually!

So, Junk Yard Dog was a GREAT way for me to meet a new friend Katie, since you know, I was jumping over her and crawling underneath her. But it was a fun little warmup. Since I’m not sure of my max weight yet, Jared suggested that I start off with 45 lbs for my snatch (we were doing 3 snatches every minute for 10 minutes) and to add 10 lbs to my power cleans (same drill). I felt like I could have gone heavier, but was set on making sure I’m doing the movements correctly before I try to go all Arnold Schwarzenegger on everyone. And I’m really sore today.. so maybe I did have enough weight! Definitely want to get heavier though. Oh, and then “Everybody Dance Now” came on and I was like OH YES. THIS IS GOING DOWNNNN.

We finished off with tabata rowing, which I actually really enjoyed. I love rowing and don’t get to do it enough. And anything tabata is a killer.. 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest. Wooooo-eeeeee. It was also nice to finish with a cardio blast (even though I ended up spinning later that night…)

Putting your name and time up on the board is really humbling and inspiring. I love seeing people that absolutely killed it, and aspire to be one of those people some day in the near future.

Sidenote- I have a new obsession to add to my list of summer obsessions! I am IN LOVE with the Reebok RealFlex sneaks.

Reebok goodies!*

Seriously, they’re my favorite pair of sneakers I’ve had so far. Erica posted last year about how much she loved them, and since I’m copying her with her workouts, I decided to also copy her with her shoes. I had Zigs before, which I also love, but these RealFlex ones are going to be killer for CrossFit. They’re so lightweight and mobile, yet have enough support that I didn’t feel like I was going to tip over when I was doing snatches. Definitely are the most ideal shoe for cross training that I’ve come across (and I have quite a collection of  old kicks…)

Ok, so that was CrossFit. I also had a great week at the spin studio. There have been a lot of new people coming to class, and it’s always fun to introduce people to our style of teaching over at Recycle. It also makes me work harder as an instructor because I want these newbies to keep coming back for more! I want everyone to have the same epiphany that I had after my first ride at Recycle, which was “wow.. this is the best spin class I’ve ever taken”. Clearly am aiming high here.

Last night’s ride was a little sentimental as my friend and kick-ass artist Jenna had her last ride with me. She’s leaving to go to grad school at Yale next week (total badass for being accepted into their Master of Fine Arts program.. they accept 20 students a year.. no big…) so she won’t be in my class for awhile. I love having Jenna in class because she is always so focused and in the zone and is ALWAYS on beat. It’s also nice having a fellow head bobber in class, so I’m not the only one.

Sweaty beasts. Skinny arm fake out FTW

Anyways, I did a little Jenna tribute ride with some of her favorites and it was awesome. Going to miss seeing her every day but know she is going to kill it at Yale and will come back with some gorgeous paintings to deck the walls at Recycle 🙂

What’s everyone got planned for the weekend? Working out? Resting? I had a rest day tonight, and my body is so thankful. It’s Healthy Living Summit this weekend! Starting tonight, I will be meeting all of my FitFluential crushes. Tomorrow, we have a day full of workshops, a WOD sponsored by Reebok, and a bootcamp. So excited!! Who is gonna be there?

Healthy Living Summit 2012

Sorry about being debbie downer the other day! My 2 weeks of spinsanity are over, so I’m going to take a few days off from working out. Still eating clean, but I think focusing on resting my body is important.

ANYHOO- you may have noticed a super cool shiny badge on the right side of the site! It’s for the Healthy Living Summit, a blogging event that takes place in Boston. I’m SO excited to go, as I’ll get to meet lots of my FitFluential crushes and meet some wicked awesome people (sidenote: if you’re attending from out of town, start incorporating “wicked” into your vocab, ASAP).

There’s nothing better than getting packages in the mail. Unless they’re anthrax. That would probably suck. Last night, after teaching 2 back to back classes and walking home in the suffocating heat (literally was sweating non stop 3 hours) I was beat and was going tunnel vision towards my fridge to attack whatever food was in there. But I stumbled over a big box when I walked into my apartment. I usually get packages shipped to my office to avoid someone stealing something from my porch (I lived in Brooklyn for 4 years, I got my back up!) and I was confused. I saw my name, along with my blog name under it, and my first thought was “wow I feel so legit” but then I obviously wanted to know what was inside. This is becoming a ramble. The POINT IS- I was even MORE excited when I finally opened the package and found a bunch of goodies from Wild Harvest!

They’re going to be sponsoring HLS and are sending out goodie bags to all bloggers that are attending. The Shaw’s by my office has a ton of Wild Harvest products, so I’m familiar with the brand- local, organic, awesome. The package included some spices, applesauce, mango peach salsa, black beans, granola, animal crackers, and peanut butter. While I can’t eat some of the products (RIP animal crackers.. I used to love you so much) I’m looking forward to testing out the others! Mango peach salsa on some salmon? To my face, please.

Are you going to HLS? This is my first blogging event! What should I expect, besides meeting some kick ass people?
