Quote of the Day

“You’re right. I am crazy. But you know what else?
I don’t give a fuck.”

I’m a Biggie girl, but this quote is too good not to share.

Food for Thought

“If you have time to watch T.V, you have time to cook good food”

Typical view of what’s inside my bag: berries, Larabar, veggies, spaghetti squash and grain-free granola. Oh and a spin shoe, naturally.

I don’t remember where I heard this quote the other day, but it’s SO true and spot on. Obviously, one of the biggest things about being Paleo is preparing your own food. I spend at least 20 minutes each morning chopping, slicing, dicing, scooping and planning out my food for each day. I literally bring half of my fridge to work. The most common excuse I hear for people having poor diets, Paleo or not, is that they “don’t have time” to cook. I’m sorry, but that’s not a valid excuse. There are SO many easy, quick recipes out there that legit take less than a half an hour to cook. A HALF HOUR out of your night. Gonna miss Jersey Shore or Teen Mom 2? Boo frickin’ hoo. Instead of rotting brain cells and becoming a couch potato, why not spend those 30 minutes doing something beneficial for your body AND your brain? And, if you reeeally feel the need to see Jenelle get arrested one more time, or watch Snooki fall on her ass after making out with a “gorilla juicehead monkey” (MUST SEE TV!!!), turn on your DVR. In the end, what would you rather do.. improve your health and longevity, or catch Kim Kardashian’s mom go through heartbreaking, traumatic plastic surgery?

Sorry, I’m going on a little rant here, but really. I feel that if someone like me can learn how to cook, and find time to do it, anyone can. If I know I have a busier than normal week ahead of me, I’ll cook extras on the weekend. Why do you think I’m so obsessed with spaghetti squash? It’s stupid easy, makes like 10 portions, and you can vary it up any way you want. Don’t have time to the grocery store? Ever heard of a freezer? Stock it with chicken, steak, and soups so that you always have a backup if you don’t have time to run into a store (which, living in a city, isn’t a valid excuse since I pass 3 on my way home). Load up on Tupperware and spend an hour one night packaging food for the week if you know you’re going to be super busy the following nights. No matter how hectic your life is, you can ALWAYS find time to prepare healthy foods if you want to fully commit to a healthy lifestyle.

Quote of the Day

“There’s risk involved when you do anything physical…
there’s a lot more risk when you don’t do anything physical.”

-Geralyn Coopersmith
director of Equinox’s fitness-training institute

Quote taken from this article about yoga controversy. Interesting stuff. I think Geralyn’s quote is spot on. There’s a chance you’ll hurt yourself no matter what activity you engage in (hell, I injure myself just by walking every day, bumping into things, tripping, etc) but the biggest risk is not doing anything at all.
